Here in the darkness that is December in the northern hemisphere we are approaching the winter solstice as this coming Sunday (21st) is the shortest day of the year. Now that can be a depressing thought, but if like those of us at MIXA towers you enjoy a good party the the flip side is that it’s the longest night! So what better way to celebrate this cosmic event than with a good old MIXA playlist competition.
So listen carefully, here’s the deal…..give us your winter-solstice inspired playlist and the best (or funniest or just plain weird) one will win a MIXA! Easy peasy.
And if you’re after a night under the stars, then our friends at the British Astronomical Association have kindly produced a map of Britain showing the best places for stargazing based on an absence of light pollution and the likelihood of getting a cloudless night. Excellent.

Drowned in Sound (aka DiS) is one of the most influential music websites in Europe with a community of over 300,000 people a month debating the music they love, loathe and listen to with love and loathing. So we are very pleased here at MIXA towers to have created a special Limited Edition design especially for them. Just the thing for the achingly cool music fan to fill with achingly cool music…or even a bit of Barry Manilow. We love a bit of Barry.

We haven’t decked the halls with boughs of holly yet but we are thinking about Christmas and how MIXA would make the most lovely gift to spread a bit of undigital cheer. To make someone you love glow with happiness, make sure you get your MIXA orders placed in time. For the UK, the last Christmas shipping date will be 17th December. That’s a Wednesday - put in in your diary.
For Europe, the last order date will be December 10th and for our friends everywhere else in the world we’ll need to have your orders by December 5th so that we can get them on Santa’s sleigh.

As always MIXA has its finger on the pulse of global goings-on. So we’ve decided that this week’s playlist competition should offer some light relief to the (all too serious) forthcoming US presidential elections. Rules are easy: Send us your finest ‘US-election-inspired-playlist’ and the best* one will win a MIXA.
(Any compilations containing songs by Presidents of the USA will be automatically disqualified)
*The term ‘best’ is used very loosely in the context of a MIXA competition

You’ve heard us going on about how far MIXA love has spread - but now you can see with your very own peepers just how close we are to world domination with the all-new Big Map of MIXA love. Yes, mix tape madness has now spread to the four corners of the globe, inspiring playlists and possibly sparking new romances as it goes.
Remember we love to hear your stories about what you’ve done with your MIXA - what songs you’ve put on it or who you gave it to? Did they swoon into your arms or snatch the MIXA off you and run for the hills? Has anyone used MIXA to propose yet? Are there any MIXA-inspired babies out there? Does Cilla need to buy a new hat? Please let us know.

As an ode to his song “If I Did A Mixtape”, Hip Hop star Devin the Dude has teamed up with MIXA to bring you his new album, “Landing Gear”. This is the third Limited Edition MIXA to grace the site and we’re super duper happy that we get to share Devin’s new album as an exclusive too. Just think - you get a MIXA - and an album - in one. Things don’t get much better than that do they? If you’d like us to seek out any more great artists for our next Limited Edition MIXA - we’re always looking for new ideas so if you’ve got one - please get in touch.

Vogue Girl Korea is referred to as one of the most prominent and prestigious fashion magazines in Korea - and having seen their fabulous October edition we have to say we agree. Especially as it features our cheeky MIXA in a special feature on custom-designed products. So here’s a big shout out to all our MIXA fans in Korea (which translated should be something like… )

So as the clever bods at Cern flick the switch which may or may not destroy the Universe, we got to thinking what would be the ultimate Apocalyptic playlist you’d shove onto a MIXA before your atoms are blown into a million pieces? Post your “end is nigh” playlist and our fave will get a lovely free MIXA. Provided we survive beyond the end of the week that is.

Now that’s not a headline we ever thought we’d write but seemingly, our rather dapper friends across the pond have fallen for MIXA’s charms big style. It gets a name check on the Ralph Lauren Rugby website and in fact has inspired a whole back-to-school mix tape debate! We might return the favour and start our own discussion on whether or not a man can really pull off the dickie bow, checked shirt and cardie look? Fashion-forward MIXA fans, please give us your verdict.

Now we know that sometimes we can get a bit excited about MIXA. And we know that lots of you love your MIXA too. But occasionally even we are surprised by the complete glee that’s displayed by people once they get their hands on one of our little retro beauties. Case in point being Laura, from Channel 4’s online show Bite. Check out this week’s show, featuring the MIXA tribute alongside a roller disco and Mexican wrestlers. Laura - we salute you!
